Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious trophy on 14 separate times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck two times in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital leveler in the dying moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
